Christmas morning Mountaineer style!

I finished making curtains for the Moravian Church for the Christmas eve service.I was so happy to have a stocking on Christmas morning and Nell loved being in the snapshots!

We tried to go sledding on Christmas Day with Nick and Dana, but we only lasted an hour it was so cold! You can see mountains in the distance in the top photo on the right. The other shot of ice and snow shows the different freeze levels of the tides of the Tunt River.

The last picture not for the easily offended!

These pictures are of Dave and Nick getting our tree ready and Cole made construction paper garland to decorate with. On Christmas morning, the tree surprised us by blooming pussy willows, since then it has grown green leaves and is starting to reroot! We used recycled cans to keep the large base stable in a bucket. Th picture with Cole and I are with his buddy Rodney, in white, and my student Eric on the right. The other picture is of Tunt boys and little Juan- she's so cute! My jolly green giant is seen in his "bunny boots" and my 3 men- too handsome.
The last picture is not for the weak of stomach- it's really for my 2 brothers who are OCCASSIONALLY disgusting! :) On the morning of my birthday, Nell left me a "puppy present" under the tree- I had to laugh but it was gross!

-18 degrees F!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone! Well, we made it through the lonely holidays! I hope you all enjoyed your time together, we appreciated our thoughtful gift boxes. Thank you!!!!! Our latest news is Nell, the new dog family addition, pulled through his worms and is once again a happy pup! Dave and I will have a night alone on Tuesday when we fly to Bethel to have Nell fixed and get his shots in order. Cole will have a sleepover at our friends Nick and Dana. YEA! :) Dave and I will get to shop in a real grocery store and can eat out to have fresh salad and ice cream- things we never have in the village. This post is a bunch of Christmas pictures- our Christmas morning and lovely gifts, our Tunt tree, Cole with his roller track that he and Dad made, and Angie in the qasspeq that she made. Qasspeq's have a big front pocket and hoods. Historically, however the hood was decorated to let other people know which Eskimo tribe the person wearing it belonged to. Their is also a picture of Cole on Santa's lap at the school, a photo of a Yup'ik woman selling the handmade goods she made at the Christmas bazaar, and two pictures of me/my students performing at the Holiday concert. They did a skit called the 9 days of recycled Christmas and made all of the ornaments to sing like the 12 days of Christmas- it was really funny and I was proud of them. Happy 2008! ~Angie
