Hi everyone! Happy early St. Patty's day, the second best holiday next only to Christmas. :) Mom came to Alaska last week and we had a wonderful time together. I met her first in Anchorage and we had the weekend together there. We did some maternity shopping, I got new glasses and then we rented a car to drive south about 1 hour to the Portage and Whittier areas. It was a beautiful trip filled with majestic scenery around every bend. We stopped at a wildlife refuge and saw all kinds of wild Alaskan animals: brown bear, muskox, bison, bald eagles, moose and caribou. Mom also ate reindeer sausage, moose and fresh salmon. Then, we had lunch at the top of the mountains at Alyeska ski resort. Then on Sunday we both returned to Tunt to spend some time with my men. We went to church Sunday evening and saw the "famous curtains", family night Monday evening to make a paper fish and watch the little kids get hats that mom's friend Kathy knit, and had a girls night Tuesday evening. Mom spent a day at school with Cole's class and mine, we had a Yup'ik feast of salmon strips, dried fish, baked bread and agoodok (eskimo ice cream). Finally, the night before mom left her and I got to take a traditional steam. Since most Yup'ik natives do not have running water, they steam instead of showering, just like a sauna. There's a picture of Cole and I leaving for 0ur short walk to school and Cole lost his first tooth so there's a picture of his new smile too! Sadly, mom returned to SC on Wed. Several people, who actually read our blog :), have asked for baby belly shots, so there are also a few of me getting bigger. Enjoy the photos!
