Alaskan RV Roadtrip

Well, our wonderful Alaskan adventure has now ended and we've been back on the east coast for a month. The trip was amazing and we had a lot of fun. The pics often come up in an odd order so I'll write briefly about where we went and what we saw. First we spent some time in Kenai where Dave did setnet fishing years ago. It was pretty and peaceful and we could see Mt. Redoubt clearly spitting steam still. We had a fire on the beach and Cole threw millions of stones in the bay. Then we spent some time in Homer, which had my favorite mountain and water views. We met friendly people at the Salty Dawg Saloon and saw ships from Deadliest Catch. We also had great, brick oven pizza overlooking the bay with windows and sun all around us. We met the family in Seward and got to spend time with the Hankins, our friends from Tunt. Dad and Andy went fishing and dad caught a 90 pound halibut! The picture of the mountain behind the boats is of a trail that people race up once a year! (Sorry, not all of the pics are up yet and I'm missing some of the big fish and Denali.) The girls: me, Naomi and Gail, went on a wildlife cruise. No whales but we saw nearly everything else: seals, sea otters, puffins... We had lunch at Fox Island and you can see the cold clear beauty of the Alaskan water. Me, Dave, Andy and Naomi went kayaking on the Valdez glacier- it was my favorite thing we did. Cole made friends all along the way, dogs and people and Riley was in a car seat for one of the first times ever! :) We spent time in Denali and saw lots of wildlife, then everyone collapsed back in the recliners at the Derk house. I miss my students a lot but hear they had a blast at their camp in Homer so I'm proud from a distance. I miss the "simplicity" of the bush, but it's nice to be near family again. I should be an aunt of a girl, Jayden, within a month! Yea. The next post will be PA/WV pictures...coming soon. ~Angie
